UPAYA PENSIUNAN PEGAWAI NEGERI SIPIL DALAM MENJAGA
Abstract
Civil servant is still a desired job by many Indonesian citizens ranging from those with senior
high school to Bachelor’s education because fixed guarantee pension on the payroll even though
they are not in service anymore. At the time of retirement, pensioners receive only basic salary
and health insurance. Basic salary received by retirees is 75%, less than when they were still in
service as civil servants. In fact, they still have school children at senior high school (SMA) and
Higher Education (University). This research aimed to describe the efforts of pensioners in
meeting the educational needs of children in Sidopekso Village, District of Kraksaan,
Probolinggo Regency. The research used qualitative, descriptive approach. Informants were
determined by purposive sampling. Data were collected by observation, interviews, and
documentation. Data analysis used data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion or
verification. The data validity was examined by triangulation of theory and source. The results
showed that they were still working after retirement in accordance with the capabilities and
expertise. The efforts made by the pensioners in maintaining the continuity of children's
education were by diversification of work in accordance with the capabilities and expertise,
utilizing social networks i.e. borrowing money from neighbors or applying for a credit in the
bank as well as leaving economically i.e. eating potluck for the sake of children education to
college. All these efforts were made by the retirees only to meet the educational needs of
children.
