    Abstract
Learners of a foreign language often make errors in the process of language acquisition. The errors are sometimes caused by the limitation of the students' acquisition of the target language. Generally the students still find some difficulties in applying the target language rules. In writing most of them often produce wrong sentences that deviate grammatical rules. This research describes the sorts of intralingual error of writing English made by the second year students This research was conducted at MAN 2 Jember with the respondents 52 students. The sampling technique used was proportional random sampling. The methods of collecting data were writing test, documentation and interview. In analyzing the data the writer used descriptive statistics. Based on the data analysis, it could be concluded that the second year students of MAN 2 Jember made intralingual error on their English writing. The percentage of errors caused by over- generalization was 23,79 %, caused by ignorance of rule restriction was 42,01 %, caused by incomplete application of rules was 4,09 % and caused by false concept hypothesized was 30,11%. The percentage of the students who made errors caused by over- generalization was 63,46% from the total respondents, caused by ignorance of rule restrictions was 90,38 % from the total respondents, caused by incomplete application of rules was 21,15 % from the total respondents and caused by false concept hypothesized was 71, 15 % from the total respondents. The big error i.s made in part of ignorance of rule restrictions (42,01 %), while the smallest error is made in part of incomplete application of rules (4,09 %). Finally, the writer suggested that the teacher should ask the students to have more practice and explain bow to formulate words into good sentences and the students must learn English to improve their ability in Writing English with correct sentences
