    Abstract
    This thesis deals with the speech acts analysis which concerns with illocutionary acts analysis of Osama Bin Laden’s Speech. The speech analyzed in this thesis is Osama’s speech on 2004. It constitutes phenomenal speech that has great effects on the listeners or readers at that time. The goal of this study is to understand deeply the types and the functions of illocutionary act and to find out the intended meanings or communicative purposes expressed in his speech. It is projected to give an explanation or an example of how the illocutionary act could be used academically to find out the intended meanings or communicative purposes expressed in a speech. The data presented in this writing are qualitative data which means the data are in the form of words. Data collection in this thesis is documentary study. The data are documented from website resource. This thesis is a descriptive study which elaborates the theory of J.R Searle’s classification of illocutionary act and the theory of function of illocutionary act proposed by G.N Leech. The developments of the theories are described in this thesis in order to ease the readers to analyze the data. The findings of this study indicate that there is a close relation between the type and function of illocutionary act to the intended meaning or communicative purpose in discourse analysis. The type and function of illocutionary act can give a clear description of speaker’s goals in expressing certain words. They constitute as clues of goals inside the words expressed.
