dc.description.abstractThis thesis discusses about Heathcliff’s Self-Actualization in Wuthering Heights written by Emily Bronte which is set in the Yorkshire moors of Northern England. Self–actualization is the desires for self-fulfillment namely to the tendency for him to become everything and actualized that one is capable to become a total kind of person that one wants to reach the peaks of his potential. The person’s desire for self-improvement, namely to become actualized his potential to be and fitted for. There are five hierarchies of needs which have to be fulfilled before someone goes through to accomplish self-actualization, those are physiological needs, safety needs, belongingness and love needs and the last needs are self-esteem needs. The research is to find Heathcliff succeeded to complete his self-actualization in Wuthering Heights. The inductive method is used to make the discussion of the topic briefs. It means that the analysis starts from the specific concept goes to general conclusion. The data used in this thesis are collected by library research and any printed materials, such as, dictionaries, books, articles and cybernetic sites. Psychological approach is applied in this thesis. Those are to analyze Heathcliff as one of the main male characters in Wuthering Heights. Moreover, this approach is used to explore the motivation of male characters in the novel. Furthermore, in order to know the personality of Heathcliff as the main male character because he excites to achieve self-actualization in his life. This thesis also applies Maslow’s Hierarchical Theory of Motivation, to show how people can get his self-actualization and to have better understanding about self-actualization. This thesis focuses on the self-actualization and on the needs of selfactualization and how the individuals succeed to get it, as Heathcliff has done in his life. He is able to unify Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange, and to make Hareton slave. This thesis attempts to demonstrate that human being can achieve his self-actualization because he wants to become a total kind of person to reach his dream whatever way he has done. So, an individual must be able to achieve his selfactualization to get true happiness. To get self-actualization, Heathcliff has to complete his needs. Those are the physiological needs of his survival after the death of Mr Earnshaw, safety needs of his childhood, belongingness and love needs, belongingness consists of his desire to inherit Wuthering Heights and to take away Thrushcross Grange, love needs consists of his relationship with Isabella Linton and Catherine Earnshaw. The achievement of Heathcliff in his self- actualization consists of making Hareton Earnshaw as a slave and the unification of Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grance.en_US
