Nyamuk yang berperan sebagai vektor penyakit masuk kedalam ordo Diptera, famili Culicidae, yang terdiri dari tiga sub famili yaitu Toxorhynchitinae (Toxorhynchites), Culicinae (Aedes, Culex, Mansonia, Armigeres,) dan Anophelinae (Anopheles)
