PROFIL KEBERSIHAN DAN PERILAKU MENJAGA KESEHATAN GIGI DAN MULUT PADA LANSIA DI DESA DARSONOKABUPATEN JEMBER

Abstract

Background: Health development in Indonesia aim to improve the quality of public health as an overall integrated, and sustainable including oral health of elderly. Oral hygiene is a problem requires attention in the elderly population, since it may leads to various diseases in the oral cavity. Objective: Our purpose is to investigate the profile of oral health in the elderly population. Examination of oral health status was done by using the status of oral hygiene-simplified index (OHI-S) in one of village: Darsono, Arjasa, Jember. Method: This research is a descriptive cross sectional observational study conducted in elderly population on September 2016. The subjects were 44 elderly male and female. Score of debris and calculus were done using Simplified Oral Hygiene Index (OHI-S) Green and Vermillion 1964. Results: Only 2 pra-elderly persons (10% of the total elderly population) showed a good OHIS.

Also 2 persons in the elderly group had good OHI-S score (10.5%), whereas the rest had a lack of OHI-S. Oral hygiene of the elderly in the village Darsono Arjasa District of Jember are in substandard level therefore needs an intensive oral health care in order to improve their oral health.
