Abstract: In this research, we examine the diversity of butterfly species (Lepidoptera: Rhopalocera) in the area of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at the University of Jember (UNEJ). Indonesia, as a megabiodiversity country, has a high diversity of butterfly species, including Java Island which has more than 600 species, with 40% of them being endemic. The research was conducted from July to August 2024 using descriptive data collection techniques, including butterfly morphology and abiotic factors such as temperature, humidity and light intensity. From the research results, 12 butterfly species from 3 families were found: Nymphalidae, Pieridae, and Papilionidae, with a total of 112 individuals. The butterfly diversity index value in the FMIPA UNEJ environment is in the medium category with a value of 2.1, which shows that even though diversity is not too high, the environment still supports the existence of various types of butterflies in a balanced way. Abiotic and biotic factors in the FMIPA UNEJ environment also influence the existence of butterfly species in this area.
