Abstract: | The objective of this study is to study the effect of the mole ratio of TiO2/NaOH during the formation process of TiO2 nanotubes via a one-step hydrothermal synthesis. The mole ratios of TiO2/NaOH investigated in this study were 0.005:1, 0.015:1, and 0.025:1, with TiO2 micropowder as the precursor. Characterization analysis using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) revealed the presence of fibrous particles, with particle size increasing as the mole ratio of TiO2/NaOH decreased. The sample denoted as TNT-0.025 exhibited an elongated tube morphology with a wall thickness of 1.64 nm, an inner diameter of 3.30 nm, and an outer diameter of 6.15 nm. Lower mole ratios resulted in TiO2 nanotubes with higher levels of impurities, particularly the anatase crystalline phase. Notably, sodium titanate was detected in the TNT-0.025 sample. The presence of sodium titanate in the TiO2 nanotubes led to an increased surface area, which was directly proportional to the pore volume. Furthermore, smaller ratio TiO2/NaOH mole ratio led to larger pore sizes. Additionally, the band gap energy decreased as the mole ratio of TiO2/NaOH increased. The most pronounced photodegradation activity was observed in the TNT-0.025 sample, which exhibited an 87.16% degradation of diazonon within a duration of 210 minutes. |
