Abstract: | The use of fossil oil in daily life has been increasing annually, leading to the depletion of fossil oil energy reserves as it is non-renewable. One potential solution is the utilization of enviromentally friendly fuels from long-chain alkane compounds known as green diesel deriving from plant-based materials such as fatty acids. In this research, the NiMo/SiO2 catalyst synthesized through the wet impregnation method was employed and characterized using XRF and FTIR, showing well-dispersed Ni and Mo metals withing SiO2. The research utilized the reflux method at 120℃ and the autoclave method at 140 dan 160℃. Catalysis reactions were conducted through hydrogen transfer from formic acid. Formic acid additions were varied at 1, 2, and 3. The reaction products were analyzed using GC and GC-MS, and the conversion value of stearic acid was calculated. The conversion values at different temperatures showed an increase at 120, 140, and 160℃, reaching 28,40%; 39,90%, and 43,67%. At 120℃, the conversion of stearic acid using the autoclave method was higher than the reflux method, recording 28,40% and 16,48%. The conversion values with varied formic acid additions showed no significant changes, namely 16,52%; 16,48%; and 16,43% for additions of 1, 2, and 3. |
