Abstract: Tripneustes gratilla is included in the phylum Echinoderms which has a role as a key species controlling seagrass and macroalgae. T. gratilla species are mostly found in the intertidal zone and occupy certain substrates that meet their needs. The condition of the intertidal zone greatly affects the density and substrate type of the population. The substrate in the intertidal zone on Payaman Coast was damaged so that it affected the density and substrate type of the population of T. gratilla in Payaman Coast, Alas Purwo National Park. The purpose of this study was to determine the density and substrate type of the population of T. gratilla in the intertidal zone of Payaman Coast TNAP. Data collection was carried out using a structured roaming method by walking from the beach to the shore and then back to the beach and so on to cover the entire research area. Density data analysis was carried out using the Odum formula (1998), while the substrate type analysis calculated the percentage occupied by T. gratilla species. The density of T. gratilla in Payaman Coast is low, ie 0.0012 ind/m2 , while the most common type of substrate found in T. gatilla is sand substrate overgrown with seagrass (SSG) with 62.44%.
