Abstract: Economic liberation and equality in the rural area is a deliberate aspiration towards building a successful community. The aim of this study was to explore the potential for economic independence of the village of Brayut that has earned the reputation of a “tourist village” in the Republic of Indonesia. The data was gathered over two months through interviews and close observation using field notes and video recording. The results of the study indicate that the community of Brayut has seen consistent financial growth from a rising number of domestic and foreign tourists. Also, there is a change in the functional use of residences that rent space to tourists. This study is expected to provide an overview of the benefits of the existence of rural tourism to boost the economy of communities.
