Hubungan Pengetahuan Dengan Perilaku Pencegahan Penyakit Katarak Pada Klien Diabetes Melitus Tipe 2 Di Wilayah Kerja Puskesmas Curahnongko Kabupaten Jember

Abstract

Diabetic cataract is a cataract that occurs in someone with diabetes mellitus. The development of cataracts in diabetes clients one of which can be caused due to increased levels of glucose in the blood. Knowledge of DM type 2 clients against cataract disease is needed to be performed early detection that can prevent blindness in DM clients who are at risk of cataracts. Early detection is necessary so that clients can perform precise and sustainable prevention behaviors. This study aims to analyze the relationship of knowledge with cataract prevention behavior on DM type 2 clients in the work area of Puskesmas Curahnongko. This research uses analytic observational research design with a cross-sectional method. A total of 67 respondents were obtained by purposive sampling technique. Data analysis using by Spearman correlation test with a significance level of 0.05. The result showed that the median value of knowledge was 10 and the median value of cataract prevention behavior on DM type 2 client was 42. There was a significant correlation between knowledge with cataract prevention behavior on DM type 2 (p-value = 0,001; r = 0,825). There is a very strong and positive correlation which means the higher the value of knowledge the better the prevention behavior of cataract disease in DM type 2 clients. This study shows that the importance of providing knowledge about cataract disease to improve cataract prevention behavior in DM type 2 clients.
