dc.description.abstractIlliterate community is a community with a low level of social welfare, especially in the field of education. However, this affects the economic and social development. Indonesia still has a high illiteracy rate. Therefore, the government started issuing a policy in purpose of eradicating illiteracy through the functional literacy (KF) program. Karangpring village, District of Sukorambi, Jember Regency which is a village with large plantations and rice fields has a faily high number of illiterate people. This village has implemented functional literacy program since 2006 until now. The program that has been implemented is going well because the organizers and the tutors of of the program have many strategies in order that people enthusiastic and motivated to learn calistung (reading, writing and counting). Thus, many illiterate people have been benefited mainly in their daily lives while reading, writing, counting, listening and speaking. The communities that have been good in calistung can monitor their children learning progress at school and get information they did not know by reading and counting.en_US
