dc.description.abstract | Rice is one of the very important food commodities in Indonesia since it functions as the staple
food for most Indonesian society. Therefore, it is necessary to maintain its availability. The
purpose of this research was to describe the role of Agricultural Extension Officer (PPL) in
community empowerment of rice farmers in Kebonagung Village, District of Kraksaan,
Probolinggo Regency, so that it can prosper and improve their life standard. Farming community
empowerment is done by agricultural extension officers (PPL), who serve to empower the
community through counseling, examination, application, etc. The research was conducted in
Kebonagung Village, District of Kraksaan, Probolinggo regency and Agricultural Extension
Center, District of Kraksaan, Probolinggo Rehgency. Techniques used in the determination of
the informants were purposive sampling and Snowball Sampling. The research results showed
that in general the implementation of agricultural extension in Kebonagung Village has been
running well, seen from agricultural programs and annual work plans of extension. The
agricultural extension activities in Kebonagung village have already been implemented and
agricultural extension officers (PPL) play active roles in assisting and providing guidance and
learning to the farmer groups (POKTAN) and the combined farmer groups (GAPOKTAN). The
success of the development of the agriculture sector is highly determined by the active support of
both farming community either farm laborers or farm owners in implementing their farm
