GENOTYPISCHE UNTERSCHIEDE IM WURZELWACHSTUM VON KOPFSALAT (Lactuca saliva L. var. capitata) UND IHRE BEDEUTUNG FIIR DIE AUSNUTZUNG DES STICKSTOFFANGEBOTES DES BODENS
Abstract
Intensive vegetable cropping is generally characterized by comperatively high nitrate leaching
leading to contamination of the ground water. Reasons for this are high N fertilizer input
necessary to maintain high yield and quality and low N efficiency by especially leafy vegetables
such as lettuce. The low N efficiency of lettuce is mainly due to its shallow rooting system
which leads to low uptake efficiecy of N03- from the subsurface soil.
