IMPROVING THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS' ACTIVE PARTICIPATION AND THEIR VOCABULARY ACHIEVEMENT BY USING MORPHOLOGICAL PROCESS OF DERIVATION AT SMPN 9 JEMBER

This research was intended to improve the eighth grade students’ active participation and their vocabulary achievement by using morphological process of derivation at SMPN 9 Jember in the 2013/2014 Academic Year. The research subjects were the students of class VIII Eat SMPN 9 Jember.The data were collected through vocabulary test and observation. The data were analyzed statistically. The result showed that there was an improvement on the percentage ofthe students who were actively participated in the teaching learning process of vocabulary by using morphological process of derivation.It improved from 59% in cycle 1 to 80.77%in cycle 2. Besides, there was also an improvement on the percentage of the students’ vocabulary achievementwho got score 70 or higher. It improved from 58.33% in cycle 1 to 82.05% in cycle 2. It means that the use of morphological process of derivationin the teaching learning process of vocabulary could improve the students’ active participation and their vocabulary achievement in 2 cycles. Therefore, it is suggested to the English teacher to use morphological process of derivation as learning strategies in teaching vocabulary.
