dc.description.abstractThe competition among retail-market goes sharp and marked by the appearance of the tastes of switched consumer spending trend from traditional to modern retail (stores) are increasing (Ma’ruf, 2005). The development of retail business supported by a network of powerful financiers allegedly will beat traditional retail if they left free to compete with modern retail. It would be ironic for traditional retail, because its existence has become one of the driving motor of the economy, but its potential is likely to be decreased (Noersaid, Tadjudin in Kompas, January 24, 2006). The fact that contrary to expectations of the ideal that retail businessmen have not only mastered by modern retail only, but traditional retail fixed also have to continue, so the existence of the retail businesses could coexist in order to support the economy. This research aims to; (1) find out the modern retail business development in Jember Regency; (2) analyze the impact of modern retail to traditional retail in Jember Regency; and (3) social responsibility knowing the modern retail in fostering traditional retail entrepreneurs. The research is descriptive research. This research will be held in Jember Regency urban areas with traditional retail stores and destinations. Data types include primary data and secondary data. Primary data retrieval has been done by questionnaire and interview methods. Model of data analysis using descriptive analysis model. The results of this research are expected to add to the contribution to the science field of retail marketing and add to the completeness of the materials as well as material input for the regional Government of Jember District to make regulations about modern retail and traditional retail.en_US
