dc.description.abstract | Intelligence is a common term which is used to explain the intellectual ability of
each person. Intelligence is symbolized by Intelligence Quotient (IQ). IQ is an
expression of individual ability level in a particular time related with age norm of
the person himself which is related with intellectuality and it is measured by an IQ
test. IQ level is represent the individual intellectual ability level according to their
age. IQ level is influenced by some factors, one of them is Goitre. Goitre is one of
a kind of Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD) which is represent with thyroid gland
hyperthrophy. Iodium deficiency especially in children with elementary school
age can decrease the amount of thyroid hormone in body blood, so it can increase
the production of Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) and Thyroglobulin, and
make thyroid gland become hyperthrophy. Iodium deficiency can hamper brain
morphology and cognitive development, and at least it can influence the IQ point.
The purpose of this research is to know the difference of Intelligence Quotient (IQ)
of elementary school children 11 – 12 years old in the mild endemic and hard
endemic goitre area in Arjasa Distric Jember Regency. The design of this
research was observational analytical with cross sectional research approach
method. The data was collected using IQ test instruments, called Culture Fair
Intelligence Test (CFIT). Sample of this research was collected using Purposive
Sampling technique with the amount of the sample were 125 students. Based on
the calculation of statistical Independent T-Test, the p value was 0,000. Based on
this result, by looking at the significancy value, the p value was less than the α
value (p < α), which is α value is 0,05. Based on this result, the conclude was H0
was rejected, which means that there was a difference of Intelligence Quotient (IQ)
of elementary school children 11 – 12 years old in the mild endemic and hard
endemic goitre area in Arjasa Distric Jember Regency. | en_US |
