This thesis discusses the character’s hatred of the novel and also the causes
and effects of the hatred. The approach used in this discussion is psychological
approach. It is used to analyze the main character’s psychological conflict because
with this approach can be acquired what the internal problems of the main
characters. Furthermore, this thesis also applies Freudian’s theory of personality,
especially theory of anxiety to obtain a deep analysis of the anxiety and hatred
among the characters.
The method of analysis used in this thesis is inductive method. It is a form
of reasoning from the specific to the general. The discussion of the thesis goes to
the particular cases to the general. This thesis is conducted by means of library
research in which the materials, data and information are collected from several
books, encyclopedias, dictionaries, and internet. The results of the research show
that, firstly the characteristics of the main characters. Secondly, the cause of the
