dc.description.abstract | This thesis is basically a study on the translation of a movie. There are
currently three ways for translating a movie: dubbing, subtitle, and voice over. For
the three of the forms, The writer chooses to take the second method, that is subtitle
and takes a children animation movie entitled “Alice of Wonderland” as the source
of the data. “Alice in Wonderland” is adapted from the story of Alice’s adventure in
two sequential books entitled “Alice’s adventure in wonderland’ and “Through the
looking glass”. These two books are written by Lewis Carroll. The story of Alice’s
Adventure is known for its creativity of the writer in playing with word and logic that
makes the story to be beautiful and it can delight not only children but also adult
readers. In translating the movie, the translators will have many challenges,
especially when they have to translates the wordplays and any humors that relates to
the languages. Therefore, this thesis is aimed at finding the problems in translating
the dialogue in the movie, the strategies that are used to solve the problems and the
shift or changes that occur as the result of translation. | en_US |
