dc.description.abstract | This study concerns with translation, especially translation procedure. It
investigates the application of translation procedures in a bilingual book entitled
the Essentials of Biology used by Grade VII of SMPN 3 Jember as an
internationally-standardized school. The goals of this study are to check the
translation result through describing the translation procedures used by the
translator and to investigate the incorrectness in it. Therefore, I know how the
translation evaluation is. The theory employed in this study is the seven
translation procedures by Vinay and Dalbernet. They are (i) direct translation,
covering borrowing, calque and literal translation, and (ii) oblique translation
which covers transposition, modulation, equivalence and adaptation.
The types of data in this thesis are qualitative and quantitative. They were
collected by using stratified sampling method. From totally nine chapters, I only
chose 5 chapters as the data to analyze by using descriptive method. At the end, I
calculate each procedure found. There are totally 252 translation procedures to be
described and analyzed.
The finding shows that from the seven translation procedures, there are only
six of them applied with transposition and borrowing as the mostly-applied
procedures in the book. Through the analysis I did, incorrectness is also found, but
it is not more than 15 %. In conclusion, the evaluation of the translation result is
still be classified as a “good” translation. | en_US |
