Abstract
Tanjung Puting National Park (TPNP) is one of the conservation areas in
Kalimantan that has important habitats for various bird species. This bird
community occupies several types of ecosystems in TNTP, one of which is in the
watershed. However, study about bird diversity specifically in the watersheds of
Sungai Buluh Besar (SBB) and Sungai Buluh Kecil (SBK) have not yet been
reported. Therefore, this study aims to determine the diversity of bird species in the
SBB and SBK watersheds of TPNP. Bird species diversity were collected from 25
September to 4 October 2024 at morning (05:30 AM) to afternoon (05:00 PM)
using a motorboat observation along 10 km of SBB and SBK. This observation was
carried out by three observers with adequate equipments, such as aculon
binoculars, nikon coolpix p1000 4k camera, and field stationery. The data collected
were bird species and their abundance. Data analysis was carried out through two
stages, namely determining the composition of bird species and calculating the
Shannon-Wiener species diversity index (H'). Based on the results of the study, there
were 57 bird species belonging to 30 families in the SBB and SBK watersheds of
TPNP. The species richness in the SBK watershed (51 species) was higher than
those found in the SBB watershed (43 species). Furthermore, according to
Shannon-Wiener indeks (H‘), it showed that the diversity of bird species in the SBB
and SBK TPNP watersheds was classified as high, with details of H’=3.32 in SBB
and H'=3.38 in SBK. the individual evenness value (E=0.88) in SBB, while in SBK
the individual evenness value (E=0.86), which shows a high category.
