This study analyzes the formulaic structure in Markus Zusak's novel I Am the Messenger using John G. Cawelti's formulaic theory. It identifies elements such as plot, setting, characters, and characterization, which support the patterns of adventure and mystery as aspects of standardization. The study also explores the role of social justice in Australian society as represented through the escapism elements in the novel. A qualitative research method is employed, with primary data from the novel and secondary data from books, journals, and related articles. The findings reveal that the novel reflects social issues in Australia through the protagonist, Ed Kennedy, who completes missions to help others. The story emphasizes that ordinary individuals can confront extraordinary challenges, delivering a message of social justice relevant to Australia's cultural context.en_US
