Silence in movies is used to reinforce a moment or its opposite. It allows the audience to think about what has just happened, but at the same time prepare for what is to come. The term for this type of silence in movies is called "filmic silence". Filmic silences can be very vivid because even though they are silent, movies can still show a lot of expressions and gestures. It makes it more expressive because the movement of a silent figure can explain the reason for the silence, thus supporting the suspense. The object selection of the movie Midnight is because the main character is deaf, the attraction of this movie lies in several scenes that contain suspense using filmic silence as the hearing angle of the main character. Using a qualitative research type with a descriptive approach, and Michel Chion's silence theory about silence which is a product of a contrast, as well as Noel Carrol's theory about the description of suspense. Based on the research that has been conducted on filmic silence as a supporter of suspense in the film Midnight, researchers found that filmic silence in the film Midnight is made diegetic sound on screen and off screen because filmic silence comes from Kyung Mi's character's hearing angle. Contrast is produced due to the use of filmic silence and high volume sound effects on hard sound and foley sound effects. This contrast occurs because the time it takes for the sound to reach peak amplitude (attack) is very short, and the time it takes for the sound to decline from peak amplitude (decay) is also very short.en_US
