Antibiotics are derived from microorganisms with the ability to inhibit and kill bacteria. Inappropriate and widespread use of antibiotics can lead to bacterial resistance, a serious health problem. Resistance can increase mortality rates from infections and diminish the effectiveness of antibiotics in treatment. The primary factor in the development of resistance is uncontrolled antibiotic use, especially in developing countries. High antibiotic consumption, often without a doctor's prescription, occurs in community pharmacies. The objective of this research is to evaluate non-prescription antibiotic services in pharmacies in Bondowoso Regency using a simulated patient method with common cold scenarios. Research in Bondowoso Regency indicates that the majority of pharmacies (97.1%) provide non-prescription antibiotic services, with only 1 pharmacy (2.9%) actively seeking patient information and another 1 pharmacy (2.9%) providing spontaneous medication education. This illustrates the high prevalence of non-prescription antibiotic dispensing in Bondowoso Regency with minimal efforts in gathering patient information and providing medication education.en_US
