Hubungan Self-Compassion dengan Perilaku Self-Harm pada Remaja Awal di Wilayah Agrikultural Kabupaten Jember
Abstract
The phenomenon of self-harm behavior is still widespread among adolescents, especially in early adolescence, which is a period full of demands and pressure. If early adolescents are not able to adapt well, it can cause psychological problems that lead to self-harm behavior. In this case, self-compassion as a source of coping is used as a strategy to overcome self-harm behavior. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between self-compassion and self-harm behavior in early adolescents in the agricultural area of Jember Regency. This study used a correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The respondents in this study were 376 respondents who used stratified proportioned random sampling techniques. The research instruments used were the Self-Compassion Scale (SCS) and the Deliberate Self-Harm Inventory (DSHI). The research results showed that the majority of respondents had moderate self-compassion with a total of 254 respondents (67.6%) and 319 respondents (84.8%) had the low self-harm behavior category. Data analysis was carried out using Kendall’s tau c correlation. This study showed a significant relationship between self-compassion and self-harm behavior (p=0.001) with a low and negative correlation (r=-0.200), which means that the higher the self-compassion, the lower the self-harm behavior. Early adolescents who have high self-compassion can accept and process negative emotions into more positive ones so that they do not vent into self-harm behavior. It is hoped that the results of this research can be used as consideration for schools and health workers to provide education about self-harm behavior and self-compassion to students so that they can overcome the rise of self-harm behavior among early adolescents.
