Abstract

The problem of slums has become a challenge for cities to be overcome immediately, this is in line with the goals of the New Urban Agenda (NUA) which calls for the creation of cities and settlements that are equitable, safe, healthy, accessible, affordable, resilient and sustainable in increasing prosperity and quality of life for all. Slum problems, especially the decline in the quality of the residential environment, are experienced in one area, namely Pejaten Village located in Bondowoso District, Bondowoso Regency. This study aims to determine the characteristics of slums, determine the priority factors for handling the quality improvement of the slum environment and formulate appropriate directions for improving the environmental quality of slums in Pejaten Village based on a review of aspects of sustainable settlements and inclusive settlements to realize a sustainable and inclusive slum environment in Pejaten Village. This research uses 3 analytical methods, namely qualitative descriptive analysis method, Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method, and Triangulation analysis method. The results of this study are in the form of directions to increase slums in Pejaten Village based on aspects of sustainable and inclusive slums. The directives formulated are in the form of directives on 3 aspects of sustainable settlement components, namely physical, environmental, social, and economic aspects. Direction on the physical aspects of the environment in the form of directions on access to waste facilities and infrastructure, availability and condition of drainage networks, availability and condition of road networks, access to clean water, and access to MCK (sanitation). Direction on social aspects in the form of direction on increasing participation, social inclusion and education of the population, while direction on economic aspects in the form of direction on increasing local economic development.
