Applying cutting fluid is common in machining processes, as it can extend the tool life. However, excessive use can have negative impacts on operators and the environment. As an alternative, the use of minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) can reduce these negative effects while still providing maximum benefits from the use of cutting fluid. This study aims to determine the most optimal parameters in the turning process of S45C steel using the MQL method to observe chip formation and the degree of serration (DOS). The experimental design used was the Taguchi orthogonal array L9 (3^4). The varied parameters were depth of cut, cutting speed, cutting fluid, and feed rate. Based on the mean response value, it can be concluded that the most optimal results can be achieved by combining the following parameters: a depth of cut of 0.5 mm, cutting speed of 127.17 m/minute, the use of tamanu oil as the cutting fluid, and a feed rate of 0.117 mm/rev. Each parameter contributes to the resulting DOS value, with the feed rate, depth of cut, cutting fluid, and cutting speed contributing 19.71%, 13.45%, 13.39%, and 11.52%, respectively.en_US
