The Flouts Of Conversational Maxims In The Spiderman: No Way Home Movie

Abstract

This study aims to determine the types of flouted maxim and the strategies are used to flout the maxims by the characters. The method used in this research is qualitative method. The data were collected from the utterances of the characters in Spiderman:No Way Home movie. The result showed that from 15 utterances, the characters flouted all types of maxims they are 6 utterances of flouted maxim of quantity, 2utterancesof flouted maxim of quality,5utterancesof flouted maxim of relevant,and 2utterancesoffloutedmaximofmanner. Furthermore, there are 6 strategies employed by the characters to flout the maxims, they are giving too much information with 2 utterances, delivering insufficient information with 6utterances, using hyperbole with 1 utterance, employing irony with 1 utterance, being irrelevant with 5utterances,and using obscure with 2 utterances.
