dc.description.abstractFurfural is an organic compound derived from the furan group which has wide applications in various industries. Furfural can be produced from biomass that contains a lot of pentosan, hemicellulose, cellulose and lignin such as bagasse waste. The establishment of this furfural factory is necessary to meet domestic furfural needs and utilize sugarcane bagasse waste to gain greater selling value. This factory is designed with a production capacity of 8,900 tons/year with an operating time of 330 days and 24 hours/day. This furfural is produced using a continuous process using 22,753 kg/hour of bagasse as raw material and an acid catalyst in the form of sulfuric acid (H2SO4) and toluene solvent (C6H5CH3). The production process is divided into 3 stages, namely the initial treatment stage of cutting the bagasse and mixing it with a catalyst, the reaction stage where hydrolysis and dehydration reactions occur, and the purification stage using extraction and distillation methods. The construction location for this factory is planned in Kesamben District, Jombang Regency, East Java with an estimated operation in 2027. Based on the results of the economic evaluation analysis, a furfural factory with a capacity of 8,900 tons/year is feasible to be established with a Pay Out Time (POT) of 3.8 years, Rate of Return (ROR) of 23%, and Break Event Point (BEP) of 50%.en_US
