dc.description.abstractThis research discusses the polemic of abortion in Mississippi faced by the characters Joy, Janine, Elizabeth, and Wren in A Spark of Light. However, there are restrictions that make legal abortion inaccessible. The theory by Lucien Goldmann, genetic structuralism is used to analyze the relationship between text structure and context structure to find out meaningful structure. The results of this study show that it is challenging for women to get abortions due to restrictions from the Mississippi state government. Jodi Picoult presents the worldview of her class that women have the right to choose and decide to terminate a pregnancy or keep their fetus based on their situation.en_US
