The Accuracy And Acceptability of Translation from EnglishInto Indonesian in The Movie Jumanji: The Next Level
Abstract
This study aims to acknowledge the accuracy and acceptability level of translation from English to Indonesian in the movie Jumanji: The Next Level and to discover whether the translation found in the film is accurate, less or not accurate, as well as acceptable, less or not acceptable. It is a descriptive qualitative approach analyzing subtitles in the movie Jumanji: The Next Level both English and Indonesian in the form of words, phrases, clauses and sentences. To achieve the goals, this study uses Translation Quality Assessment (TQA) proposed by Nababan (2012) particularly accuracy and acceptability and Translation Assessment Signs by Machali (2000) as supporting theory. The finding shows that the translation in Jumanji: The Next Level is less accurate and less acceptable. The less accurate is due to the discrepancy and deletion of meaning, and incongruence in the form of clauses or sentences found in the target language text (TLT) which are different from those of in the source language text (SLT). In terms of acceptability aspect, the common mistake found is related with the use of unfamiliar and uncommon terms and the discovery of grammatical errors in the TLT.
