    Abstract
Jember Regency has a population that increases every year, causing traffic congestion. However, the growth of existing facilities and infrastructure is not keeping pace with traffic growth, resulting in an increase in traffic accidents. Traffic accidents, especially two-wheeled vehicles, are a separate problem for the Government, especially Satuan Lalu Lintas Kepolisian Resor (Satlantas Polres). Traffic data recorded 1146 incidents of accidents in Jember Regency at the end of 2019 (Gempur, 2020). In the records of the Jember Police Traffic Unit, there were 524 traffic accidents in Jember Regency from January 1 to May 11, 2022. In detail, 61 victims died, 25 victims were seriously injured, and 611 victims were slightly injured. Furthermore, during 2021 (January 1 – December 21 2021), there were 832 accident cases. In detail, 262 victims died, 7 people were seriously injured, and 873 people were slightly injured. Meanwhile, during 2020, there were 948 recorded incidents of accidents. In detail, 289 victims died, 6 were seriously injured, and 1,023 people were slightly injured (Radar Jember, 2022). Many factors underlie the occurrence of accidents. Starting from nonstandard vehicles, inadequate road sections and fatigue of motorized vehicle users. Researchers make technological innovations in the form of smart helmets that are able to detect fatigue or sleepiness for motorists. Fatigue or drowsiness will be detected using image processing. The smart helmet is also equipped with GPS to monitor its position if an accident occurs. The smart helmet also has a vibrating motor that functions to wake up the rider when they are tired or sleepy. There is also a speed reduction device that will reduce speed slowly until the motorbike stops when the rider is tired or sleepy. It is hoped that this smart helmet technology innovation research will be able to overcome the problem of motor vehicle accidents caused by drowsiness and reduce delays in handling accidents in Jember Regency.
