dc.description.abstract | Background: 50% of tobacco leaf extract proved to be effective as an alternative denture cleanser because it contains one of the phenol groups, flavonoids, which can act as antimicrobials but can cause surface roughness of heat-cured acrylic resin. Surface roughness is recommended to be ≤ 0.2 µm, if exceeds this threshold, bacterial colonization will increase and can cause denture stomatitis and denture plaque. Objective: To determine the effect of immersion time in 50% tobacco leaf extract on the surface roughness of heat-cured acrylic resin for a period equivalent to 25 minutes of immersion per day for 2.5, 3, and 3.5 years. Methods: Laboratory experimental research with pre and post-test control group design using 50% tobacco leaf extract immersion as the treatment group, sterile aquadest immersion group as a positive control, and no treatment group as a negative control. Roughness measurements were carried out using a surface roughness tester. Results: Komolgrov-Smirnov test result was 0.119 (p > 0.05). Levene test result was 0.438 (p > 0.05). The result of the Two Way Anova test was 0.000 (p <0.05), so it was found that there were differences in the results of the roughness based on factor variables. Tukey-HSD test results were obtained between groups without treatment p value greater than α (p> 0.05), the sterile aquadest immersion group had a p value less than α (p <0.05), and 50% tobacco leaf extract immersion group had a lower p value (p <0.05) than the sterile aquadest immersion group. Conclusion: Immersion heat-cured acrylic resin in 50% tobacco leaf extract for 22 days had the highest roughness results compared to the control group because of the flavonoid and acidic characteristic, the longer immersion, the more flavonoids from the extract penetrated. | en_US |
