    Abstract
Caries is one of the most common oral health problems found in preschoolers. The occurrence of dental caries in preschool children is related to the bad behavior of parents in caring for their oral health. More than 57% of parents, with children suffering from dental caries, have low knowledge, low attitudes, poor actions regarding their child's oral health care. Family counseling is believed to be effective in overcoming problems in children related to the attitudes and behavior of parents throughout interacting with children. The purpose of this literature study was to describe family counseling about dental and oral care to prevent dental caries in preschool children. The research design used is a narrative literature review. The selection of articles in this study refers to the Flow diagram of the PRISMA Statement 2020. The articles were searched using several search engines (Google Scholar, PubMed, Springerlink, Sciencedirect, and ProQuest). The results of this study indicate that family counseling has an effect on increasing parental self-efficacy, increasing child behavior, reducing the risk of dental caries in preschool age children, but becomes unaffected under certain conditions. The conclusion in this study is that family counseling is effective in improving the family's bad behavior in caring for dental and oral health, such as improving parents' self-efficacy, increasing health education, increasing children's healthy behavior in caring for dental and oral hygiene, and reducing the incidence of dental caries in preschool age.
