dc.description.abstract | This paper is the result of an analysis of the representation of orientalism in a novel entitled Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell. It focuses on the depiction of oriental characters and how they struggle and respond against the treatment they receive from white people so that at the end of the study, a criticism of the author's position in the novel will be seen. This study uses a descriptive-qualitative method to analyze the novel. The representation theory purpose by Stuart Hall becomes the theoretical basis that will be used to examine the object of the research. Rowell tries to talk about the difference between the east and west in her novel. Differences in physical, language and appearance are still not accepted and considered normal. Rowell also describes the bullying and racist behavior experienced by oriental figures due to being considered different. In this novel, Rowell hopes that people accept differences and realize more that respecting one another is the best thing. | en_US |
