Abstract: The purpose of the thesis is to know how herbert uses conceit to convey religious expression in the five sacred poems of George Herbert i.e The Search Man, Affliction I, Faith and Sunday. The writer probes the poetic device in those poems in relation to reveal religious expression. In order to analyze the poems, the writer uses formalistic and mimetic approeaches. In the research, descriptive and inductive methods are also apllied. The discussion results that comparison is a good way to give brief description in readers' mind. Conceit as one of comparison is avle to reveal what a poet wants to say including religious expression in the five poems of george herbert.
