Gambaran Tingkat Kecemasan Pasien Kanker dengan Kemoterapi di Rumah Sakit Tingkat III Baladhika Husada Jember

Abstract

Cancer is a disease caused by abnormally growing cells that impact on the psychological aspect. Anxiety is a common symptom arising from the diagnosis of cancer. This study aims to determine the description of anxiety levels and the correlation with patients characteristics in Baladhika Husada Hospital Jember. The independent variable in this study is the level of anxiety. This research used descriptive analytic research of quantitative approach with cross sectional design. A total of 93 respondents were obtained by purposive sampling technique using State and Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) with validity value of CVI 0,95, construct validity 0,390-0,736 and reliability value 0,96. The results show that severe anxiety in each state anxiety and trait anxiety counted 64 people (68.8%) and 74 people (79.6%). The results show that there was no correlation between characteristic of respondent with anxiety level of cancer patient (p value > 0,05) using Chi Square, Fisher’s Exact and Kolmogorov-Smirnov Test. In another side, there was correlation with characteristic of domicile (p value = 0,003 in A-State aspect and p value = 0,003 in A-Trait aspect). Anxiety in cancer patients caused by uncertainty of diagnosis, side effects of chemotherapy and facing the death. In future research, the correlation between anxiety and other factors such as characteristics of pain, coping mechanism and self concept need to be explored.
