Abstract: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM) patients require self efficacy in order for patients to have commitment doing diabetes self care. Self efficacy can be enhanced through education by nurses about how to do diabetes self care management and lifestyle changes, so that patients can controll blood sugar levels. This study aimed to analyze correlation between the role nurse as educator and self efficacy in patients with type 2 DM. A total of 102 respondents selected in this study by using consecutive sampling technique. The data were collected by giving questionnaire of the role nurse as educator and Diabetes Management Self Efficacy Scale (DMSES). Data analysis was performed by Spearman-rank correlation test with significance level of 0.05. The results showed that the median value of the role nurse as educator was 55 with a minimum value of 32 and a maximum value of 108, and the average value of self efficacy was 56.35 with a standard deviation of 10.24. There was a significant correlation between the role nurse as educator and self efficacy (p-value: 0.002; r = +0.308). The correlation was weak and positive which means the better the role nurse as educator the higher the self efficacy. This study indicates that nurses should be able to improve the provision of health education in patients with type 2 DM so that patients can improve their efficacy in managing self care of DM.
