Abstract: The immune system can be improved by increasing the phagocytic activity of monocytes. Binahong leaves have been used extensively in the field of health; but no study about the effects of leaf extracts binahong against the phagocytic activity of monocytes. Aim. Knowing the influence of leaf extract binahong (Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Stennis) against the phagocytic activity of monocytes. Method. Experimental in vitro with the post test only control group design. Suspension isolate of monocytes were divided into 4 groups (each consisting of 6 wells) are: K (control); EDB 25% (leaf extract was incubated binahong 25%); EDB 50% (leaf extract was incubated binahong 50%); EDB 100% (leaf extract was incubated binahong 100%). Isolates monocytes is exposed latex beads. Parameter of phagocytic activity is expressed in the average number of particles of latex beads that difagosit per 100 monocytes. Results. Mann-Whitney test showed that average number of particles of latex beads the control group is smaller than the group EDB 100% and greater than group EDB 25%. The average number of particles of latex beads the group EDB 100% identical to the group EDB 50% but greater than group EDB 25%. Conclusion. Binahong leaf extract (Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Stennis) can increase the phagocytic activity of monocytes; binahong leaf extract 50% and 100% are highest.
