This action classroom action research was intended to enhance the eighth grade students’ reading comprehension achievement by using KWL strategy at SMPN 9 Jember. Based on preliminary study, it was known that the eighth B grade students had problem in comprehending the text because the teacher only asked them to read aloud. It made the students only read it without comprehending the text. Then, they also are less motivated to look for the meaning of unfamiliar words because the teacher gave them those unfamiliar words directly after they read. It was shown from reading test administered by the English teacher that the eighth B grade students was the lowest class who achieved the minimum standard requirement score (KKM). The minimum score requirement is 74 and only 7 students or 18.9% of 37 who achieved the standard score. Meanwhile, the active participation of the students in reading class was only 27%. Furthermore, KWL strategy was used to enhance the students’ reading comprehension achievement.en_US
