Abstract: The result of the research shows that the sixth semester students have a good score interpretation in using relative pronoun and relative adverb in an adjective clause. It is proved by their mean score which is 77, 2. Meanwhile, it is rather different from their mean score in using defining and non-defining clause in the form of combining sentences. Their mean score is 49. 2. This score is categorized poor interpretation. Further, their mean score in making sentences in defining and non-defining clause is 65. It has fair interpretation. From the description above, it can be concluded that the sixth semester students are good in using relative pronoun (who. which, that and whose) and relative adverb (where, when and why) but they are rather difficult to differentiate between defining and non-defining clause.
