Penetapan Kebijakan Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) Pada Tahun

Abstract

Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) is a policy related to a sustainable palm oil industry assigned by the Indonesian government in 2011. As the biggest palm oil producer, Indonesia ought to be responsible to manage the development of palm oil industry as the NGO and the regime demands the industry in every country to enact the principle of sustainable development. The regulation regarding sustainable development of palm oil industry, in fact, has been assigned in international palm oil regime’s regulation called Roundtable Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). When RSPO as an international regime is no longer considered capable of accommodating Indonesia’s interest, the reactions of protests from scholars, palm oil entrepreneur groups, and government institutions began to emerge. However, some NGOs such as WWF Indonesia still believe that RSPO is capable of guaranteeing the acceptance of Indonesian products in international markets if RSPO is being maintained. The pro and contra reactions from the society regarding RSPO regulation have led to the government’s decision to accommodate those reactions through the ISPO policy. As a domestic policy, ISPO is considered more adequate in dealing with domestic interest and is able to show that Indonesia has obediently performed a good industrial management in accordance with the regime’s regulation. Even though Indonesia has resigned from RSPO, yet this country does not turn down their regulation and chooses to be more selective in applying the policy based on its domestic condition.
