Abstract: . The development of diplomacy nowadays has been shifting from traditional (track one diplomacy) to more modern diplomacy through private track (track two diplomacy). This is because the first track (track one diplomacy) that prioritizes the government role tends to be strict in doing diplomacy activities, so it is difficult to reach the national interest of a state. The developing diplomacy recently is more concerned about the element of soft power through public diplomacy. It is introduced as one of government’s tools in handling the state’s image. Public diplomacy is also an instrument of soft power and is meant as government’s communication process for other state’s public which is in purpose of giving the understanding of a state, attitude, institution, culture, national interest and the policy take the state. Indonesia which is known as a beautiful country with various cultures is in attempt to use soft power through “batik” to the United States. By the diplomacy of “batik”, Indonesia attracts the United State’s public attention, so the good impression of Indonesia appears and leads to the improvement in bilateral relations and increases state’s income through Indonesia’s batik export to the United States.
