dc.description.abstract | Hydroponics is a method of farming without soil media. Plant media used should be porous and flowing nutrient. Provision of nutrients must conform in order not to exceed the media ability in water holding substrate. Therefore, need the research with a hydroponic irrigation to determine the ability of substrate media in a given water holding. Of the excess water can cause the media becomes saturated. This research was using Completely Randomized Design (CRD), consisted of 6 growing media substrates (husk charcoal, fern roots, wood powder, coarse sand, broken bricks and zeolite, while the fine sand as a control) with 6 repetitions. Data analysis was performed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the bar chart. Bar chart used to determine good treatment planting media for the growth of tomato plants. Substrate media that can hold more water irrigation was a broken bricks with 27,40 ml/liter, plant height 46,28 cm and 10,46 number of leaves strands. Charcoal husk 17,16 ml/liter, plant height 16,14 cm with charcoal husk leaf number 6,46 strands.Fern root 16,54 ml/liter, plant height 31,49 cm by 6,42 strands of leaves.Wood powder 24,88 ml/liter, plant height 8,74 cm by 3,52 strands of leaves. Coarse sand 22,38 ml/liter, plant height 24,35 cm by 7,48 strands of leaves. Zeolite 17,72 ml/liter, plant height 16,72 cm by 6,86 strands of leaves. And fine sand 24,78 ml/liter, plant height 22,40 cm by 6,88 strands of leaves. The average of water volume of nutrients that exist on the broken bricks media bigger than the other substrate media. Water nutrients which provided on media substrate can be utilized by the plants well in the growth process, proved by the growth of tomato stem height and number of leaves good vegetative. Vegetative growth phase can be support the generative growth and potentially provide a good production too. | en_US |
