Abstract

Elderly depression is an emotional and clinical disorder with distress condition and cognitive decrease. The depression is characterized by despaired, deep sadness, worthlessness, inability, loss of interest and various obstacles. The aim of this research was to determine the effect of Group Activity Therapy of Perception Stimulation in the Low Self Esteem to the elderly depression level. This research started in December 2011 to January 2012. It was pre experimental research with pretest and posttest design,. Sample of this study was twenty two samples of elderly people (55 to 70 years old) were used in this study with intermediate depression in Karang Werda Semeru Jaya (mild and moderate depression) Wilcoxon Sign Rank Test was used to data analysis. There were intermediate depression (14 person) became mild depression and 36,4%( 8 person) became normal. The results of p value = 0,001 was less than α( 0,05) The conclusion that there is a significant effect on Group Activity Therapy of Perseption Stimulation in Low Self Esteem to elderly depression. Group Activity Therapy of Stimulation Perseption in Low Self Esteem is highly recommended for elderly in intermediate depression (mild and moderate depression)
