Abstract: This study aimed to describe the teaching and learning process using discovery learning methods on topic of triangle and rectangle that can improve student’s activities and achievment. This research was conducted toward the third year students of SDN Sumbersari 02 Jember which consist of 34 students. In the application of this methods expected to increase the activity of students during the learning process. Activities that are expected to emerge that determination an temporary answer or filing hypotheses, learners seek information, data, facts needed to solve problems and test hypotheses, draw inferences, conclusions applications in new situations. Delivering real problems is also needed to facilitate students in understanding the material, because they can directly visualize the things that happen everyday. With the adoption of discovery learning students can find a material concept without help of teachers and it makes the acquired knowledge embedded in his mind. This research conducted by using classroom action research. To collect the necessary data using observations, interviews and tests. The data obtained were processed using qualitative analysis. So learning mathematics using the discovery learning methods can improve the activity and student learning outcomes.
