Abstract: This research was intended to describe how the use of controlled writing technique can effect the seventh year students’ achievement in writing descriptive text at SMPN 1 Pasirian. This research applied quasi experimental design with non-equivalent control group post-test only design because the aim of this quasi experimental research was to know whether or not there was a significant effect of the students’ achievement that was given certain treatment. The research subjects were 36 students of VII B as the experimental class and 36 students of VII D as the control class. The data collection methods that were applied in this research were writing test and observation. It was found that the statistical value of t-test was 7.17. Then t-table at significant level of 5% with Df (70) was 1.9944. Thus, the result of t-test was greater than the value of t-table (t>t-table). Based on the result of the research, it was concluded that teaching writing by using controlled writing technique had a significant effect on writing achievement on the seventh grade students’ descriptive text writing achievement
