Abstract: The factors influence the formation process of dental caries are nedeed to be understood to fulfill the successfulness of a dental treatment. This paper is review the ethiopathological factors of dental caries as it is a must for dental practitioners to understand its etiology and pathology that are needed for planning an effective treatment as well as for preventing the advance formation of dental caries. The factors influence the formation process of dental caries include the inside factors such as age, sex, ethnicity, geographic factors, sociocultural, awareness and the patient's behaviour toward their oral hygiene maintenance. The process of caries formation can be described as follow: tooth surface free from caries, followed by the appearance of initial demineralization shown by the presence of white spot, and finally the presence of caries. Caries are then progresses through the dentin. Caries which already affected the root are sometimes followed by root fracture if the caries are not treated immediately.
