dc.description.abstract | Ketoprofen is one of NSAIDs that is effective in relieving rhematoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout arthritis, dismenorrheoa, and other pains. Usually, ketoprofen is formulated as oral, rectal and parenteral dosage forms. But, those dosage forms have some disadvantages. Therefore, this research is aimed to develop ketoprofen as topical dosage form by preformulation studies which is the first step in dosage form development to predict diffusion ability of ketoprofen through skin. This research uses determination of solubility thermodynamic parameters and partition coefficient as preformulation studies. The solubility of ketoprofen is determined by using the equilibrium solubility method. And, the shake flask method is used to determine partition coefficient. The positive value of ΔH and ΔG indicates that solubility processes is an endothermic reaction and not spontaneous. While, the negative value of ΔS indicates that solubility processes is not in a random system. Ketoprofen has Log P value equal to 1,34 ± 0,02 indicating that it has enough lipophilicity and hydrophilicity to penetrate stratum corneum as the first barrier of skin. | en_US |
